Texas Off Road Parks — A Guide for Jeep and SxS Riders
By Trail Tested TX | Houston, TX
Texas is one of the best states in the country for off road riding. From the rocky Hill Country terrain that challenges even the most capable rigs to East Texas mud pits and wide open desert runs in West Texas — there’s something for every type of wheeler here.
As a Houston-based Jeep and SxS rider I’ve been building my list of Texas off road parks worth visiting. This isn’t a ranked list — every park has something different to offer depending on your rig, skill level, and what kind of riding you’re looking for. Consider this a living resource that I’ll update as I visit more parks and put more Texas trail miles on my Wrangler Rubicon and Pro XP4 Ultimate.
Texas Off Road Parks Worth Knowing About
Creekside Off Road Ranch
A popular destination for Texas off road enthusiasts with a variety of terrain to challenge different skill levels. Great for both Jeeps and side-by-sides.
Xtreme Off Road Park
As the name suggests, this one caters to riders looking for more challenging terrain. Check their website for current trail conditions and event schedules before heading out.
General Sam’s Offroad Park
A well-known Texas off road destination. Worth checking out for their trail variety and facilities.
Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area
Located in East Texas, Barnwell Mountain offers some of the best technical trail riding in the state. Rocky terrain and elevation changes make this one a favorite for rock crawlers and serious wheelers.
Northwest OHV Park
A solid option for riders in the North Texas area. Good mix of terrain for different skill levels and rig types.
Mud Buddies ATV Park
If mud is your thing — and sometimes it is — Mud Buddies delivers. East Texas mud at its finest. Not for the faint of heart or the freshly detailed rig.
Escondido Draw Recreational Area
A more natural off road experience with open terrain and a rugged West Texas feel. Good option for overlanders and riders looking for something less manicured than a dedicated park.
Hidden Falls Adventure Park
One of the most well-known off road destinations in Texas. Hidden Falls has an extensive trail system with options for beginners through advanced riders. Great facilities and well-maintained trails.

River Run ATV Park
Located in the Hill Country, River Run offers scenic trails and solid terrain variety. A great destination for a weekend trip from Houston.
Wolf Caves
A unique off road experience built around the natural cave and rock formations of the Texas Hill Country. Technical terrain that rewards capable rigs and skilled drivers.
Katemcy Rocks
One of the most talked-about rock crawling destinations in Texas. The granite rock formations at Katemcy are unlike anything else in the state — a must-visit for serious rock crawlers. My Rubicon is on the list to get here.
Concan Adventure Trails at C.A.T.P.A.W. Ranch
Located in the Texas Hill Country near Concan, this park offers a mix of terrain with a scenic backdrop. Great option for a combined camping and wheeling trip.
Unlimited Offroad Park
A versatile park with terrain options for a wide range of rigs and skill levels. Good facilities and a welcoming atmosphere for both Jeep and SxS riders.
Sabine ATV Park
Located in East Texas, Sabine offers mud, water crossings, and the kind of terrain that keeps your wash bucket busy for days afterward. A great option for SxS riders who want to test their rig in challenging conditions.
A Note on Trail Conditions
Always check a park’s website or social media before heading out — Texas weather can change trail conditions dramatically. What’s a great rock crawl in dry conditions can become impassable after heavy rain, and some parks close temporarily after major storms to recover.
